April is the month when I participate in the Blogging A-Z Challenge and I bring this sleepy little blog to life. So I have Ambitions. That starts with A!
So… Hello, April! And ambitions!
The truth is, I’m not much of a blogger. I am very focused on my novel series, The Journeymen, and revising the first book in the series, Shadow of the Portico. So, I’ve only had a vague idea about what to share in my blog. But I do have some interests that you may share.
My novel, for one thing. And in fact, let’s have A also be for Announcement!
I am participating in Camp NaNoWriMo beginning today, and I will be officially starting Book Two in the Journeymen Series — La Dotta. Mostly, I’ll be doing some outlining, free writing, and scenes, before I go back and complete revisions for Shadow. In case you’re curious, here’s a quick blurb:
La Dotta, Becca MacLean Lyman
The second book of The Journeymen, a time-travel historical romance series, is the story of Sarah MacGregor, a speech-impaired, unemployed historian. She is nursing a broken heart and trying to accept the fact that, most likely, she will never be a professor. Now she needs to figure out what she will do with her life.
Meanwhile, Giovanni, who left Sarah behind to travel back in time, still loves her and wants to win her heart. Giovanni believes Sarah deserves to know who she really is — a Journeyman, a powerful time traveler like himself.
Sarah, who spent her whole life thinking she pursued history and experimental anthropology because she loved it, realizes that she has been a pawn for all the other Journeymen; manipulated into doing their research and sewing their period clothing, all the while left out of their group. What she doesn’t know was that the exclusion was for her own safety, because she is a very special type of Journeyman: a carrier.
Sarah must decide if she really loves researching history, if she wants to travel to the past, and if she still loves Giovanni. Hopefully, she’ll figure it out soon, because the research, the past, and Giovanni all need her. Desperately.
You can already guess some of what interests me: history, experimental anthropology (not that I’m Sarah, but… yeah…), writing. And of course, my family and friends, cooking, music, gaming. Enough things to fill 25 more letters this month.

Hello Becca,
That’s a very interesting concept for your novel series. I’m polishing up a manuscript before sending out another round of queries–finding it a challenge to insert a strong hook into chapter one while whacking away at the dense underbrush of backstory.

I didn’t realize that was Sarah’s deal! 😦 I’m heartbroken. Although I have to say, she could have been manipulated into far worse things. Lol

It causes something of an identity crisis, but you’re right, it’s not exactly a life of crime being manipulated to do research and embroider the blackwork on men’s sleeves. 🙂
